Our Love Story

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day I thought I would join my fellow bloggers in sharing my love story.  I think this is a fun way to get to know someone better, so figure why not take part and have it linked in my about me.  One thing really great about this is that there are questions for everyone, single or taken!
Taken Ladies

1. How long have you and your significant other been together? Ryan and I first started dating in August of 2003, but were on and off due to being long distance.  All-in-all, about 8 1/2 years.
2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story? I had just finished playing college softball and resorted to playing on a fun slow-pitch softball league for the summer with my girlfriends.  One of the teams we played against had a set of twins (one of whom happened to be married to Ryans Uncle) who were having a birthday party that weekend and invited my team to come.  Once I arrived with my friends, one of the twins grabbed me and said she had someone for me to meet.  I wasn’t really that interested in meeting anyone, but she insisted.  I guess the guys at the party had been pushing Ryan to come talk to me and it resulted in us standing in a circle of our friends NOT talking to one another.  Finally I broke the ice and started some small chit-chat, but minutes later my friends were ready to leave.  On the way out Ryans Aunt asked if I gave him my #.  I said no, that I don’t just go handing out my number, especially if a guy doesn’t ask for it.  She, along with a few others, insisted I give it to him and wouldn’t let me leave.  Finally I said, “I don’t even have a pen and paper.”  His Aunt gave me a cheesy grin and lifted up a piece of paper and a pen that she already had in hand.  Smooth… quite smooth.  I wrote it down and assumed he wouldn’t call.  He did, but not until later the next week, when I had already forgotten about it.  We talked for a few minutes before I had to go.  Before hanging up I mentioned that i’d be playing softball with my friends the next night and that he should come watch and go to the bar with us after.  I then said, “Bye, Brian.”  he said, “Umm… it’s Ryan.”  OOPS!  Lucky me, he did show up the next night and the rest is history!  We spent the next week hanging before our long distance relationship began (He had another year of college baseball at Illinois and I was planning to attend graduate school in Pittsburgh).
3. If married, how long have you been married? 2 years
4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?  We got married in MI, where we’re both from, in Ryans high school chapel.  That’s right, I married a good little catholic school boy ;)  Our wedding was small, as we didn’t want a huge wedding that we’d go into debt over.  It was perfect and at the end of the day, we got what we’d wanted- we we’re husband and wife.
5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!  Oh my gosh.  We’re really lame with our cheesy nicknames.  Some I am way to embarrassed to share, but we do call each other ‘hunny bunny’.  The others get a little inappropriate ;)
6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.  This one is pretty easy.  1- Ryan is an amazing Dad.  He isn’t shy to get down on the ground and play with Riley.  I really adore that about him.  2- He has a big heart and can be quite the romantic at times.  3- He was raised to be incredibly nice and respectful.  He is the first to help an old lady with her groceries and I think that is so sweet.
7. Tell us how he proposed? Dec 23, 2008~ Our plans were altered due to a huge snow storm we were getting in MI.  Rather than dinner and a Red Wings game, we just did dinner, but at our favorite hibachi place, yum!  He had been acting slightly distant, little did I know he was just nervous.  On the way home I was trying to put on ‘our song’ but he kept changing it.  I was getting annoyed, but just figured he wasn’t in a romantic mood.  As we turned onto my mothers street, he finally put it on.  We sat in the car listening and talking about the things we loved about one another. When he got out of the car to go open my door I didn’t even notice he left the car running and the song playing.  When he opened my door he said, “Chris, i’m doing this now.”  I said, “Doing what?”  I quickly realized when he got down on one knee in the foot of snow we’d gotten and asked me to marry him!  I jumped out of the truck and into his arms, crying of course, saying, “Yes!”
This was us soon after.
8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petalsI was surprised this morning with 2 dozen roses, a bottle of wine that I love and a sweet card.  There will probably be lots of lovey dovey time later tonight.  As I mentioned, he is my romantic!
9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch? Um, yes to both please!  We can relax on the couch anytime, so i’d rather get out and enjoy one another, especially now that Riley is here.  We’re working on more time for just us 2, which is really nice.
10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere? We were just saying last night that we can’t wait to travel with one another.  It’s too hard now, with Riley and trying to handle our finances in a smart way, but hopefully someday we’ll be able to travel the world.  I know he especially wants to go to Ireland, and me, Italy. We’ve been all over the U.S., but separately.
11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day. Ryan has to work and I am home with Riley, who happened to wake up with a fever.  It’ll just be a typical day, but we do plan on making dinner together tonight, then relaxing and maybe giving each other massages once Riley is asleep.
12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day? I don’t think i’ve ever ASKED for anything.  Just time together, that’s all I want.
13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love. I’d heard this before, but it was one of those things that we had to experience to understand.  Kids become your first priority very quickly, so, if you’re a parent or going to be soon, make time to celebrate your love.  Continue to tell, AND SHOW, each other how much you love, care for and are thankful for the other person.
14.  Show us a picture of what love means to you.
Just after saying, “I do” and giggling like we’re kids!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
